Soon is Now, a climate and eco art exhibit on the Hudson River
indivisible
indigo, repurposed silk, thread, aluminum tube
Flags are a form of governance under which its residents are granted legal protections and rights. The indigo-dyed flags (and matching parachute) imagine a world beyond nation states and human exceptionalism in which we express loyalty to our atmosphere—an element indivisible from life on earth.
Altered pledge of allegiance (paper, thread).
the sky’s the limit
exhaled breath, burst balloons, sunlight, cyanotype emulsion, encaustic wax, paper, fabric
These cyanotypes made with translucent balloons and encased in wax appear ghostly, atmospheric, and cloud-like. But the burst balloons no longer hold the breath that inflated them. Like rising carbon dioxide levels in the Earth’s atmosphere, they have exceeded their limits.
inhale, exhale
exhaled breath, balloons, plaster, silicone
Plaster sculptures that fill a void made with breath. While the action is about the breath—our not-so-personal atmosphere—the objects recall the body.
Daily ritual for several weeks.
